From Classroom to Odoo: My Real-World Tech Internship Journey
Stepping into my first IT role at V Group Consulting & Solutions was a huge step outside my comfort zone. I had zero professional experience, only university projects from my time studying abroad. Going from academic theory to a fast-paced enterprise environment was a massive wake-up call.
Here is what my journey looked like, the real-world challenges I faced, and why this experience changed everything for me.
My Daily Tasks
Here is a quick look at my daily routine and what I was actually responsible for
- Testing & QA Support: Do functional testing on DEV and UAT environments to catch bugs before production deployment and handled QA tracking from client feedback.
- Meeting Summaries: Bridged the communication gap by documenting high-level meetings between our team and clients.
- On-Site Events: Spent 5 days on-site collecting client requirements and running software training sessions for end-users.

Challenges in Reality
If you’ve read this far, I bet you can already imagine the kinds of challenges I faced during my internship.
- Vocabulary Shock - Even as an IT student, Odoo ERP was like a foreign language for me. The business and technical combination completely caught me off guard. Early on, when clients explained their needs, I couldn't even picture what the system solution should look like. I guess this is a true difference between a new Entry and an expert

The "Yes" Trap -
I’d listen to explanations, think I got it, and confidently say, "Yes, I understand." But the moment I sat down to work, I’d freeze—everything vanished. Because I didn't want to keep asking the same questions, I overthought and repeated every step manually. It made me slow, and my work sometimes ran overdue.
(Alright Listen guys, Just do it—if it’s wrong, the team will guide you on how to fix it anyway!) - The "One-Message" Rule - Living abroad, I was used to email. Coming back to Thailand and having to do everything in a chat box really stressed me out. I had to learn to pack everything— well clear context, explicit details, and annotated screenshots—into one single message. It was stressful, but believe me, it makes life easier for both the sender and receiver.
Why V Group Consulting & Solutions?
To be honest, I didn't apply to a ton of companies for my internship. I only applied to two places: a Cybersecurity role, and this Functional Consultant position. I actually got offers from both! So, why did I choose this one? Well, let me tell you what makes this choice so rewarding.
-
No Corporate Walls & Unlimited Learning: Because of the tight-knit team size, you get to talk to everyone. The team is incredibly nice and open-minded, so there's no need to fear speaking up. Plus, because of this close-knit environment, you aren't boxed into one role—you naturally end up learning a ton of things completely beyond the standard scope of your position!
- Direct Mentorship: Instead of doing coffee runs, the Director genuinely trained me. He gave me impactful, diverse tasks that interns in massive corporations never get to touch.
- True Work-Life Balance: Working hours are strictly 09:00–18:00. This job is WFH. No pressure to stay late. Your personal time is really respected.
- It's Paid: We all know how hard it is to find a paid internship. While it’s not a full-time salary, getting paid for your trainee hours is a huge advantage.

Would I Recommend It?
Absolutely. I went from 0% Odoo knowledge to executing functional testing, handling client support, and professionalizing my communication.
To any student starting out: it is completely okay to feel clueless on day one. If you want real-world experience, genuine mentorship, strict work-life balance, and a paycheck for your growth— just apply at V Group Consulting & Solutions!
